t’s not that surprising that eating heavy amounts of fat, sugars and processed foods can cause your skin to age sooner, plus leave it dull and worn looking. However, there are a few wonder foods that you can quickly and easily add to your diet that will brighten your skin and help stop the signs of aging.
Fruits and vegetables are an integral part of any well balanced diet. In fact, you need more servings of this food group each day than any other. These foods provide an ample supply of vitamins, minerals, proteins and antioxidants that your body needs to regenerate and stay healthy. Plus they boost the immune system, give you energy and strength.
Among the heroes of the plant based food group are broccoli and avocados.
Broccoli is rich in antioxidants, fibre and sulforphane. Not only does it help reduce blemishes and give you a clear, glowing complexion, it’s a fabulous anti-aging nutrient. The nutrients in broccoli add strength to your cells preventing them from breaking down. It also helps to kick start the bodies natural anti-aging abilities, reducing the occurrence of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of age.
Avocados are full of omega 3 fatty acids as well as vitamin E, making them a natural anti-aging wonder food. They give your skin elasticity while helping you to retain natural moisture levels, which is necessary to keep the skin looking young.
The fibre content in oats is great for keeping your blood sugar under control, which in turn prevents skin cell degeneration. Also full of carbohydrates for energy and silicic acid which gives density and stature to your skin. This helps keeps creases and wrinkles from forming.
Finally, if you must indulge, a little dark chocolate is good for your skin. Derivatives from the cacao bean contain flavonoids, an anti-oxidizing component which reduces cell damage and contributes to the overall health of both body and skin. However, keep in mind that it must be dark chocolate (not milk chocolate) and moderation is key to getting the most benefit.
